These are some of the speeches and writing I have done concerning DevOps. Speeches are available for presentation, articles are generally available online, and books for sale through Amazon.
Speeches
This is a list of some speeches available for presentation and where they have been delivered.
Many organizations attempt adopting DevOps and Agile practices only to crash against a compliance wall such as Risk Management Framework (RMF), PCI-DSS, or even GDPR. After being a Product Owner on an Agile team, I transferred to a security lead, with an org newly committed to Agile. My team worked through a mindset change, incorporating small compliance goals, integrating with developers, shifting security left, and building cooperative risk ownership. This session shares my experiences incorporating an Agile workplace with U.S. Government compliance.
Delivered at multiple conferences including GitLab Commit.
Everyone knows IT is all about Ops, If you can't op, than what use is anything else, so why should I worry about the Dev and Sec people? If it were only that easy. This briefing explains the critical connections between various sections and explores smoothing out some of the differences.
DHS manages critical infrastructure for the Federal Govt under the CISA. These critical areas, 17 at last count, are usually delegated from Congress. Space has not been considered an area of critical infrastructure, with subcomponents in multiple areas. This speech, and the accompanying peer-reviewed article, establish a criteria for judging critical infrastructure and advocates for the inclusion of Space facilities as a separate, budgeted item.
Every company wants to accelerate, deliver more, faster, and increase customer value and return profit to stakeholders. Every DevOps business understands core metrics but advancing values requires resolving known unknowns behind the initial numbers. Accomplishing initial metrics leads to some understanding but allows deriving additional details. Subsequent metrics should be small, focused on acceleration and provide clarity to feedback. Provided examples demonstrate how time to change, deployment frequency, restoration time, and change failure rates can be deconstructed to provide advanced solutions.
Platform Architecture
Everything in software ascribes to specific standards, from security to operations and running a platform is no different. Understanding the standards applied to a platform starts with the essential cloud migration, the cloud format selected from AWS to Azure or Google then moves from the cloud structure into setting up clusters for Kubernetes. The basic standards lead one to design and implement custom architectures within those spaces, but architectures also arrive at their standards. The talk leads to setting up a platform within a cloud with a practical, custom architecture, leading to success and meeting regulatory standards.
Goals:
Introduce basic architectural concepts for platforms
Divide architecture into specific components for implementation
Scale and secure architectural models to support increased resilience
Understand the challenges between legacy and cloud-native applications
Learn the different models that apply to architecture across platform elements
Writing
Writing helps expand thoughts and ideas from speeches into more comprehensive documents. The below lists books, articles, and reviews.
As the world has become increasingly digitally interconnected, military leaders and other actors are ditching symmetric power strategies in favor of cyberstrategies. Cyberpower enables actors to change actual economic outcomes without the massive resource investment required for military force deployments.
Cashing In on Cyberpower addresses the question, Why and to what end are state and nonstate actors using cybertools to influence economic outcomes? The most devastating uses of cyberpower can include intellectual property theft, espionage to uncover carefully planned trade strategies, and outright market manipulation through resource and currency values.
Offering eight hypotheses to address this central question, Mark T. Peters II considers every major cyberattack (almost two hundred) over the past ten years, providing both a quick reference and a comparative analysis. He also develops new case studies depicting the 2010 intellectual property theft of a gold-detector design from the Australian Codan corporation, the 2012 trade negotiation espionage in the Japanese Trans-Pacific Partnership preparations, and the 2015 cyberattacks on Ukrainian SCADA systems. All these hypotheses combine to identify new data and provide a concrete baseline of how leaders use cybermeans to achieve economic outcomes.
Cybersecurity and functionality pose the pillars on which all software development turns. This Generic Qualitative Inquiry (GQI) study discovers the human experience through social exchange as part of this critical Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) through social exchange. The studied subjects were 13 individuals within the DevOps cultural and in a single organization. DevOps is a cultural methodology for software development focusing on flow, feedback, and continual improvement to deliver more value, faster. Experiences by three rounds of interviews designed to assess subject perceptions from an external perspective as world, a team perspective as presence, and an individual perception as readiness. Individuals showed strong reactions in exchanging items within the team but conflicts between teams and customers were more difficult to resolve. This research developed recommendations to standardize value in organizations by a better understanding of the DevOps human experience.

Courses
Short list of webinars and courses which I have authored and delivered.
Evolving legal requirements, expanding partner ecosystems, and increasing privacy concerns are forcing enterprises to quickly rethink their data management policies. Rather than reacting to governance demands, IT leaders should proactively adopt cloud-based protection and centralize data management.
Join this webinar to learn how to maintain a comprehensive data protection approach through automation that goes beyond your legacy solutions. In this session, Amazon Web Services and DevOps Institute will share proven strategies for cloud backup, disaster recovery, and protecting your workloads across the entire organization.
Gaining observability
As modern development teams take on more of the full lifecycle of microservices, the traditional strategy for observability is being outpaced by the evolving complexity of distributed systems. Join this webinar to learn how to shift to an integrated approach – combining logs, metrics, and traces with security events to provide true, meaningful DevSecOps visibility. In this virtual discussion, Amazon Web Services and DevOps Institute will provide actionable insights for a strengthened security posture within your observability strategy.
Continuous Testing is an essential DevOps practice that builds quality into your applications by integrating the right tests at the right time across your application delivery pipeline. Implementing testing early and often with appropriate automation has been shown to reduce defects and costs while accelerating higher quality releases.
DevSecOps Practitioner introduces a range of practices for advancing to a more comprehensive understanding of DevSecOps practices. Explore practical outcomes by finding the right mix of people, building processes to accelerate value, and comparing technological options available today. Tailored for recently transformed organizations who are looking to enhance DevSecOps skills and awareness.
